Momentum Is Powerful
The big question is, how can a company add to its Momentum?
Our site, MusicStreaming.com, includes a blog about the music industry. So you can keep up with the developments there. The sites we like right now are Spotify, Pandora, Rhapsody, and Rdio. That will change over time.
First, if you like the service you are using now, there is no compelling reason so switch. Secondly, there are lot of deals out there, including a free month trial. You can try service after service, using the free month trials, as a way to get lot of music. You will have to deal with a different user interface each time; that can be easy for some (like Pandora, which has a great user experience), but can be harder on some that have a weak user interface (like Samsung MILK).
In addition, everyone has the same basic catalog of songs; about 30 million. A few have a smaller catalog (Amazon, ROK) so those should be avoided.
We are not impressed by the very large web companies that introduce a streaming service and just assume everyone will flock to them. There has to be real value there. So we are not promoting any service unless it really stands out. It has to be about more than just the money.
