Sadly, Women Entreprenuers Not Sought by VC
According to Allyson Kapin, founder of "Women Who Tech", less than 10% of investor funding goes to famale-led startups, in Europe. It is very similar in the USA, also. Generally speaking, white males continue to garner the lion's share of VC attention.
Investors need to focus more on diversity, to have a realistic portfolio and more chance of returns.
Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist, said that, "Data shows that women CEOs in the Fortune 1000 drove 3 times the returns compared to S&P 500 enterprises run predominantly by men."
Women Who Tech is running the "Womens Startup Challenge", where female-led startups compete. $60,000 is at stake here, and Mozilla will give an additional $25,000 toi the startup that most emphasizes privacy and transparancy. Women Who Tech is an organization, founded in 2008, dedicated to reducing the funding gap between the genders, and to bring more attention to gender bias in the venture capital community.
